First trailer for Sherlock Homes 2 delivers so many Victorian karate chops

Trailer FrenzyA special place to find the newest trailers for movies and TV shows you're craving.

The first ever trailer for Sherlock Holmes 2 is delivering much of what we loved about the first, sassy banter between Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, wacky steampunky hijinks, slow-mo everything and a sepia toned world. Plus check out Jared Harris as Professor Moriaty! Watch!

Oh Guy Ritchie, your love for slo-mo explosions still hasn't soured on us, Michael Bay-style. It looks like this movie takes up right where the last one left off. We glimpse bursts of Watson's wedding, his honeymoon, and some sort of devil-winged ritual going on — looks like fun. Here's the official trailer.

Sherlock Holmes has always been the smartest man in the room…until now. There is a new criminal mastermind at large–Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris)–and not only is he Holmes' intellectual equal, but his capacity for evil, coupled with a complete lack of conscience, may actually give him an advantage over the renowned detective.

DISCUSSION

Obligatory disclaimers: I never saw the first one, nor have I read any of Doyle's stories. That said, this seems to have a lot more fights and explosions than I would expect to find in the source material. It may be a good movie, but is it really Holmes? How about making a Holmes movie that is a little more true to the Victorian drawing room, and then make a different movie based on two Victorian detectives that do karate?

It bothers me that watching this trailer I realized that it (and many other trailers) could equally well be for Jane Eyre or the next James Bond.
