Hey, so I don’t know if you read James Dashner’s dystopian scifi YA novel The Maze Runner. Hit book, hit movie, big-ass maze involved. Well, the first trailer for the movie sequel, subtitled The Scorch Trials, is here, and I don’t know what the hell is going on. Also, I’m pretty sure there’s no more maze running.
So apparently the world is mostly defunct. And the kids who were forced to run that darn maze in the first movie have escaped into some kind of prison-training-facility run by Littlefinger from Game of Thrones (never a good sign). Apparently the maze was just a test to... save humanity? Somehow? Or at least figure out which kids were going to save the remnants of humanity by virtue of their maze running skills? But there’s more training? And maybe the kids didn’t really escape the tests, but being tricked into thinking they escaped the tests is a new part of the test? And there are things in jars? WHERE IS THE MAZE? I WAS TOLD THERE’D BE MAZE RUNNING.
To be completely honest, this all somehow makes more sense in the trailer than the Wikipedia synopsis for The Scorch Trials, so the movie has that going for it. The Scorch Trials premieres on September 15th, 2018.
