Ridley Scott's latest addition to the Alien series, Prometheus, had been shrouded in mystery, until now. A heap of movie images have appeared online — showing off new space costumes, giant set pieces and Michael Fassbender's beautiful bleach blonde mane.

The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly has a large feature on Ridley Scott's new movie Prometheus, and a few of the images are already online. We're finally getting a better look at Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, and Idris Elba in their new spacesuits. But more importantly, check out the massive human head sculpture. What is this all about? It's gigantic! Can't wait to see where this fits in with the mysterious space jockey.

Here's the official synopsis which is too vague to reveal anything concrete about this picture:

Ridley Scott, director of "Alien" and "Blade Runner," returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

Perhaps the giant head is part of the archaeological dig we heard rumors about many months back (spoilers at the link). Only time will tell. Prometheus will be in theaters on June 8th, 2012.

Corpore Metal

Well the uniforms are slick and all, but I kind of miss the huge bulky space suits of the first movie. The big suits were intentionally chosen to increase the look of human frailty and give a feeling of claustrophobia to the audience. The unspoken message of the space suits was, "See? This what it takes for humans to survive in a actively hostile universe. The universe would just as soon do without us. Sweet dreams, little monkey." This plays into the Lovecraftian cosmic insignificance theme of the horror of the first movie.

But it's a completely minor quibble. Never mind.

Seeing a bit of the trade mark "Ridley Scott optical haze" going on. Scott just loves to play with light. I said that before didn't I?
