Feast your eyes on the very first images from the movie adaptation of David Mitchell's time jumping novel Cloud Atlas. The movie features a massive cast of big name actors (Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving, Hugh Grant and more) playing multiple roles throughout time, from the 19th century to the future.

Thanks to Entertainment Weekly we now have the very first look at... the future? We're not sure. According to one of the movie's three directors, Lana Wachowski, Tom Hanks meets an emissary from an advanced civilization, played by Halle Berry, in one part of the many layered stories. As is another tale about a composer, played by Jim Broadbent and his apprentice Ben Whishaw (pictured below).

Cloud Atlas will debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, and then hit theaters worldwide on October 26th.

This looks like a big epic bag of fail. An overblown, "message movie" based on a novel which consisted of cleverly constructed collection of cliched-into-the-ground tropes. Don't get me wrong, I liked the book, but once you get past the central story mechanism it's about —- what? Some vague mishmash of slavery and the eternal struggle for justice and love maybe? The eternal heart of darkness? Whatever. And directed by three different voices. I predict great performances but not much else. And Tom Hanks is about 25 years too old to play that role (sorry Tom; but the age of that character in that particular role is pretty critical).
