We may have just celebrated the holidays for 2017, but the powers that be have already wrapped a present for 2018.

Orion Pictures just picked up the rights to the Christmas-themed high school zombie musical Anna and the Apocalypse for North and Latin America and plan to release it during the 2018 holiday season. The film premiered at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas last year and we saw it. And it’s awesome. Here’s our review.

And here’s the film’s trailer.

If you don’t feel like clicking or watching either of those links, here’s a bit more context. The film doesn’t have any major stars in it. The director, John McPhail, isn’t a name yet. But the whole thing is done with an unabashed and exciting energy that somehow feels like a John Hughes movie, an Edgar Wright movie, a Disney Channel movie, and a Shane Black movie, all layered on top of each other. It’s not quite as good as that description suggests, but it’s very close, and that’s reason enough to be excited.

We’ll have more on Anna and the Apocalypse in the coming months, now that it finally has distribution.
