It's officially happening — Neon Demon, Nicolas Winding Refn's female-driven horror movie previously known as I Walk With The Dead is getting made. Let's hope Carey Mulligan, who was previously reported as starring in it, still has a big role.

Not much is known about the plot of Neon Demon. It's just described as a horror movie with a largely female cast. The press release (via Variety) quotes Refn as saying:

One morning I woke and realized I was both surrounded and dominated by women. Strangely, a sudden urge was planted in me to make a horror film about vicious beauty. After making 'Drive' and falling madly in love with the electricity of Los Angeles, I knew I had to return to tell the story of 'The Neon Demon.'

We don't know for sure if this movie is supernatural — although the fact that it's being described as "horror" rather than a "thriller" like Refn's previous work seems like a good indication. It could just be a slasher film, but fingers crossed. Refn was also signed up to direct The Bringing, a movie about a haunted hotel in L.A., for Sony — so maybe he's in a supernatural frame of mind?
