Disney created an amazing John Carter animation — in 1957

In 1957, legendary disney animator Ward Kimball created a cartoon vision for Edgar Rice Burroughs' Barsoom that was innovative and filled with truly bizarre alien creatures. This animated Mars only lasts for a minute, but it's a fun journey.

In 1954, Walt Disney began providing ABC with hour-long Disneyland specials in exchange for ABC helping to fund the construction of the Disneyland park. Kimball directed this 1957 episode, Mars and Beyond, which animated both the scientific and science fictional dreams of Mars. He may not have had the benefit of motion capture, but I wouldn't mind seeing Kimball's grand Barsoomian creatures on the big screen.
