Realizing perhaps that the bar for films based on toylines had been raised by The Lego Movie, Sony has asked Diablo Cody to take another pass on the script for the live-action Barbie film. This is nothing but good news.
Hopefully, like most sensible people, you're past the insane "Diablo Cody is new queen of Hollywood!" that followed Juno's success and the equally insane "Diablo Cody is overrated garbage!" movement that immediately followed (the actually underrated) Jennifer's Body, and just recognize Cody is an excellent screenwriter who writes excellent female characters, which I think we can all agree will be a major benefit for Barbie. Also, apparently Cody's a major Barbie fan, too (from /Film):
But according to producer Walter Parkes, that's exactly why she was a perfect fit. "Diablo's unconventionality is just what Barbie needs," he said. "It signals we're going for a legitimately contemporary tone. We're bringing her on because she had great ideas, but even more importantly, she truly loves Barbie."
As long as the movie ends with Barbie as the Goddess of the Galaxy (see #9), I'll be there.
