Sure, Diana might already be in her costume and fighting the good fight in Batman v Superman this week, but before that, she had to be honed into one of the greatest fighters in the DC universe. Now we’ve got our first look at the women that will help her do exactly that in Wonder Woman.
Entertainment Weekly has revealed a first look at not just Diana before she dons her classic red gold and blue costume, but her island home of Themyscira and three of the most important people in her life: her mother, Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen); General Antiope (Robin Wright); and Lieutenant Menalippe (Lisa Loven Kongsli). And they all look ready to kick some serious butt.
After all this time we’ve had Batman v Superman marketing showing us Diana in her costume, it’s kind of weird to see her before her transformation int Wonder Woman. But it looks pretty good... although some fans might be annoyed to see high heels amongst the Amazonian’s warrior gear. Not director Patty Jenkins, though:
It’s total wish-fulfillment. I, as a woman, want Wonder Woman to be hot as hell, fight badass, and look great at the same time—the same way men want Superman to have huge pecs and an impractically big body. That makes them feel like the hero they want to be. And my hero, in my head, has really long legs.
You do you, Amazons. Wonder Woman hits theaters June 2017.
