Crowdfund a short film based on a Daniel H. Wilson story and much more

Daniel H. Wilson's short story "The Nostalgist" is looking to become a short film, with a little crowdfunding help. There's also crowdfunding campaign running for an outdoor survival tablet, a collection of Greg Rucka's steampunk webcomic, and a new collection from one of our favorite webcartoonists.

The Nostalgist - A sci-fi short film

Based on a short story by Robopocalypse author Daniel H. Wilson, The Nostalgist examines how technology might allow us to ignore the social problems in our world:

With properly tuned ImmerSyst eyes™ & ears™ the futuristic city of Vanille can look and sound like a paradise. But the carefully curated life of a father and his son threatens to disintegrate when the father’s eyes™ begin to fail. Desperate to avoid facing his own traumatic reality, the man must venture into a city where violence and danger lurk beneath a skim of beautiful illusion

For a £15 pledge, you'll receive a high-definition download of the film, a PDF of the script, and access to exclusive bonus content on the production blog.

Earl: The World's First Solar-Powered Backcountry Survival Tablet

It's also designed to withstand water, dust, shocks, and mud. The makers are currently running a preorder/crowdfunding campaign starting at $249. [via Inhabitat]

Lady Sabre & The Pirates of the Ineffable Aether Vol. 1

Greg Rucka and Rick Burchett's steampunk webcomic Lady Sabre & The Pirates of the Ineffable Aether stars the swashbuckling Lady Seneca Sabre and her airship crew as they search for adventure and treasure amidst a cast of witches, rogues, and a pair of deputies of the law. The first print volume will collect the first five chapters of the story. For a $10 pledge, you'll receive a PDF of the book. For a $30 pledge, you'll receive all the digital format options, a wallpaper and icon set, an exclusive recording of an interview with the creators, plus the physical cloth-covered book.

Dumbing of Age: The Second Book Collection

David Willis is the immensely prolific creator behind the webcomics It's Walky! and Shortpacked! In Dumbing of Age, Willis takes alternate-universe versions of many of the characters from his earlier comics and sends them to college. There are still plenty of Transformers jokes, of course, and even a costumed hero running around campus.

For a $7 pledge, you'll receive a PDF copy of Book 2. For a $14 pledge, you'll receive PDF copies of both books. If you'd prefer physical books, you can nab Book 2 for $26 and both books for $46.
