Pixar’s latest film, Coco, won’t be released in the US until November 22, but it’s already made box office history. In less than three weeks, it’s become the highest grossing film ever in Mexico.

The film, which is set in Mexico and features a full Latin cast, opened in Mexico on October 27. To date, it has grossed 827 million pesos, or about $43 million, overtaking The Avengers, the previous all-time champ.

Coco tells the story of a young boy named Miguel, who loves music but is prevented from playing it because of a mysterious family secret. He then travels to the Land of the Dead to confront his ancestors and find out why he’s not allowed to play music.

Coco opens in the US next week; you can read our review below.
