As "Bulletproof" begins, Clark is in the hospital flirting with a nurse to get information off the record. And then the nurses wheel in a gunshot wound victim, who turns out to be John Jones, the Martian Manhunter. Dood! Clark tries to convince the nurse not to operate on Jones, because he doesn't want them to find out he's still Martian on the inside. But she says every moment they delay his life is in danger. Just in the nick of time, Oliver shows up with Dr. Emil Hamilton, who says he'll take over. Emil specializes in this kind of stuff. Emil operates on Jones and saves his life. Inspector Dan Turpin's partner has just been murdered and he gets a new partner — Clark, who's operating under the name "Joe." In one scene, Dan chases a junkie into an alley while Clark watches. The junkie pulls a gun on Danny, and Clark saves him. Then Clark reads the junkie his rights. And in another scene, Dan Turpin busts a drug dealer, who turns out to be the guy who murdered Dan's partner. Dan beats on the drug dealer viciously, while Clark stands by and watches — and then the other cops expect Clark to join in, so he fakes beating up the dealer's customer. Dan finds Clark looking in on John Jones in the hospital, and gets suspicious, especially since Clark let Green Arrow get away earlier. Clark says he knows Jones' shooter was a cop, and Dan says you don't roll over on a badge. But it's okay to shoot a fellow cop?, Clark asks. Turpin says there are some questions you just don't ask. Clark says a real hero does what's necessary. Also, Clark hangs out at Dan's house during a cookout, and Dan's son is pretending to be the "red-blue blur" (from tomorrow night's episode.) Dan's wife, Susie, thanks Clark for looking out for her husband. "I know the world needs him, but I need him more," she says. This reminds Clark of something Lana just said. Clark snoops around the house of one of the cops, Simmons, but then Simmons and Danny catch him. They arrest him for the attempted murder of Detective John Jones. It turns out Jones found out about the cops' dirty "operation," and they dealt with him. Simmons and his buddy tell Danny it's his turn to get his hands dirty. In the squad car, the handcuffed Clark hears on the radio that the cops are fighting Green Arrow, and realizes they've sent Danny to kill G.A. Clark escapes from the cops and whooshes away. Danny has busted the same junkie he caught earlier, but then he finds Green Arrow at the scene, and manages to shoot the crossbow out of G.A.'s hands. He says he's not there to arrest G.A. Oliver tries to talk Danny out of killing him, but Danny says he has a family at home. "Fine," Oliver says. "Pull the trigger. And when your little boy asks who you saved today, you can say you killed a man in cold blood." Danny finally decides not to shoot Green Arrow — who then saves Danny from Simmons' gunshots.
