Bradley Cooper Will Play an Astronaut Going Into the Ocean In Deeper

Bradley Cooper in Aloha.
Bradley Cooper in Aloha.

Last year, we wrote about a new movie called Deeper, which would follow a disgraced astronaut who decides to go to the deepest depths of the ocean. That movie is now moving forward and Bradley Cooper is attached to play the lead.

Deeper is written by Max Landis (Chronicle, American Ultra) and will be directed by Kornel Mundruczo. David Goyer (The Dark Knight) is producing. The Wrap broke the news and reports that a bidding war is currently taking place for the rights to make the movie. This is mere weeks after Landis sold a script called Bright to Netflix that’ll be directed by David Ayer (Suicide Squad) and star Will Smith and Joel Edgerton. That’s reportedly a scifi buddy cop movie.

“... a disgraced astronaut who decides to go to the deepest depths of the ocean.”

Sounds like Mercury astronaut Scott Carpenter (1925-2013). His 1962 flight aboard Aurora 7, while successful, used too much fuel in some phases of flight, and overshot on reentry. Some blamed Carpenter; he never flew in space again. He turned to undersea research and worked on the Navy Sealab project.
