Batfleck Still Has No Idea What He's Doing

Just last month we took a pretty comprehensive look at the ups and downs of Ben Affleck’s Batman “situation.” It’s been complicated to say the least. But he’s talking about his future with the character once again and honestly I feel like it’s time for the actor/director to put up or shut up.

The Daily Sabah asked Affleck point blank: “Do you see yourself coming back for another Batman?” He replied:

For me, it’s interesting, and I always evaluate this stuff on the merit of the material. I want to direct a “Batman” movie, and I never got a script that I was happy with, so they are starting over and writing another script. And right now, I think a lot of different possibilities I think for the way the DC Universe could go, and I will just follow my interests in pursing that. And I know that I love working with this group of people, and it was a real joy for me to make [Justice League].

“I never got a script that I was happy with.” That’s a hell of a thing to say, but perhaps not too surprising when you consider Matt Reeves, currently set to direct The Batman, dropped Affleck’s script to make that film more his own. Affleck probably wasn’t thrilled with the decision, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s where those comments about him not playing the character much longer came from. But maybe he should consider going with the flow or exerting his power to come to a final answer, instead of this neverending waffling? Playing Batman is a pretty sweet gig regardless, which Affleck has said in the past.

Regardless of what Affleck continues to say, the Batman train will keep moving along. There’s even been rumors of others “gunning hard” for the role. Do you want Affleck to continue on as Batman? Would you have preferred he direct his solo film as well?

I would love to see a Ben Affleck directed Batman film as basically I want more good directors to helm these films. To me I think its clear Ben Affleck also wants this however the scripts Warners has been giving him to work with just are not up to his standards causing him to walk away. Likely the creative issues he has as a Director are now starting to seep into his mind as an actor. I bet its just hard to separate the two.

Lets not forget this guy is an Oscar winning Screen Writer and Director of a Best Picture film (with a Golden Globe and a BAFTA for Directing), he is intimately familiar with how lacking these films are in these regards.
