The massively troubled follow-up to 2012's Snow White and the Huntsman has been dealt another blow: It's lost Frank Darabont as a director. But at least they've got plans for a new villain that might inject life into this thing once again.

The Huntsman, which takes the place of a sequel that didn't happen and also isn't a spinoff, exactly, but a sort-of hybrid spinoff/prequel focusing on Chris Hemsworth's Huntsman and his earlier tangles with the Queen (Charlize Theron). The wikipedia entry summarizing the number of turns this project has taken is a treat, by the way. I highly recommend trying to parse it, if you also really enjoy untangling giant knots of thread.

Anyway, the prequel has both Theron and Hemsworth back. This time, Hemsworth's Huntsman is on a quest to find the stolen magic mirror, which brings him face-to-face with Theron's Queen Ravenna and her sister. Her sister who, The Wrap reports, will be played by Emily Blunt,

The deal's not final yet, but we are so on board Emily Blunt as an evil... I guess Princess? Not entirely sure what level of royalty she'll be. We haven't seen Blunt go full-on evil, and this seems like a perfect chance to do that.

I can sit here over the next half hour and come up with twenty ideas that are better than this. The first being not to make a prequel to what was a mediocre movie at best.
