Award-winning architect Ben Pell has designed luxury homes and schools, but as a father, he has also acquired crucial insights into building one of the world's most mysterious structures: the pillow fort.
In addition to recommendeding construction materials (use sheets not blankets for the roof), he provides three classic designs to choose from. If you're truly ambitious, you and your kids can opt for the compound fort, which uses multiple pieces of furniture to create separate rooms.
But Pell stresses that a parent's involvement in the construction project ends immediately upon completion. "Once they're inside the fort, they don't want to be seen — it's a world in and of themselves." Wise words.
