Australia making a gay version of the Big Bang Theory?

Australia's latest sitcom features the members of a gay science fiction club, dealing with being yourself in a harsh world — and wrangling over which Star Trek captain is the coolest. It's being described as a queer Big Bang Theory.

Fingers crossed that Outland lives up to its potential and avoids too much obnoxious stereotyping — Australia has a fine tradition of sitcoms, including the supremely weird Mother and Son. Here's the blurb, from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation:

It's all systems go as filming starts on Outland, ABC1's new six –part comedy series. Produced by Princess Pictures (Summer Heights High and John Safran's Race Relations), Outland orbits around a gay science-fiction fan club, and the lives, loves and never-ending dramas of its members.

Rae (Christine Anu), Toby (Ben Gerrard), Andy (Paul Ireland), Fab (Adam Richard) and Max (Toby Truslove) are openly gay and closeted geeks. Outland is a series about belonging, no matter who you are, and how everyone searches to find a place to fit in.

Outland ... where your best friends sometimes seem like aliens and close encounters are what you wish for. Outland will be filmed on location in Melbourne over the next six weeks and will air on ABC1 in 2011.

its a catchy title but how does this relate to The Big Bang theory? I hope it won't crash outside gay communities like L word, only six seasons!
