X-Men: Days of Future Past reunites many of the cast members from the earlier X-Men film trilogy, but one previously announced character will be absent: Anna Paquin's Rogue, whose scene ended up on the cutting room floor.

Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer told EW that the decision to cut Rogue from the film had nothing to do with Paquin's performance and that he "would work with her in a heartbeat." But Paquin was supposed to appear in only one scene, which didn't make it into the final version of the film:

Through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous," explains Singer. "It's a really good sequence and it will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it. But like many things in the editing process, it was an embarrassment of riches and it was just one of the things that had to go. Unfortunately, it was the one and only sequence Anna Paquin was in, the Rogue character was in. Even though she's in the materials and part of the process of making the film, she won't appear in it.

What do you expect from right wing paranoid, racist, sexist, studio execs?

America hates women almost as much as it hates African Americans. The US is.... right now.... a right wing security state where everyone and everything you do is spied on. Where millions live in poverty, the middle class is hanging by a thread and literally month to month on the verge of plunging into abject poverty and where it's plutocrats spends vast sums on frivolous purchases while they cower behind their fortified homes.

America is a land where 40% of the homeless work a full time 40 hour work week and still cannot afford a stable home, where the most incompetent Congress in the entire history of the US just voted to throw millions off of unemployment assistance right after Christmas, where women are raped by legislative decree.

So yeah, OF COURSE a strong independent woman is going to be "extraneous" if she isn't giving the male lead head. What is truly sad if that many people seem to believe that if only their cartoon super heroes were strong women once in a great while that makes up for all the abuses suffered in everyday life.
