And now, electrical workers playing with high voltage power lines

Note to self: DO NOT PLAY WITH POWER LINES.

Remember those public service announcements that used to run on television all the time in the '80s and '90s? "Stay away from downed power lines! Don't even get near them! They make look harmless, but they'll flash-boil your brain right inside your skull!"

Those PSAs are fun to mock (looking at you, G.I. Joe), but you guys, power lines are SERIOUS BUSINESS. This video – which features electrical workers, who appear to be outfitted with insulated gloves and sleeves, flirting with live, high-voltage cables – illustrates why.

So I am sitting at my desk here in the safety department of an electrical utility and, well, I am not sure where to begin with how many problems there are. Very glad I don't work there.

I'm not even sure what else to say beyond this is stupid and not even the utility workers should be doing it. I normally swoop in on anything electricity related on io9 and talk about safety but, I am just going to shake my head And say one thing: if you mess around with electricity, death is the best thing that happens to you. living through it, that is far, far worse. Grendelkahn posted one thing to refer to that.

okay Lauren Danger, safety ranger, standing down.
