My mother likes to talk about how my grandfather had an early model calculator years ago. Exactly when I'm not sure - he died in 1980 when I was 6 and he was retired by then, so I'm guessing 1960's. It didn't have a digital display, but printed your equations on receipt paper.
Anyway, it broke and my grandfather had to send it away to get it REPAIRED. With today's tech, it seems positively stone age. :D
