The people of a Chinese village thought they'd encountered E.T. — but it turned out to be a malnourished monkey with no hair. Mao Xiping spotted the creature eating cucumbers in her garden in Gezhai Village, and thought it was a rabbit at first. "At first I thought it was a rabbit, then I was shocked to see it had an alien face," she said. "My neighbors agreed it was like nothing we'd seen before. It stopped eating cucumbers when we gave it peaches and now it won't eat anything else." Scientists eventually decided the creature was of terrestrial origin after all. [UPI]

Okay, I like the ending of this story. Last year (?) those kids in Peru beat a hairless sloth to death. Recently a quick-thinking young Texan shot a poor mangy coyote or something. This time around, some hicks see some weird creature and it's all...

"Ai yah, so ugly! It's eating all your cucumbers. What should we do, Mrs. Mao?"

"Hmmm... PREPARE THE PEACHES!"
