The stunning ceiling above the Austrian Academy of Sciences' main auditorium helped the 167-year-old institution make Curbed's list of architecturally memorable buildings dedicated to science.

Other picks include way more modern (and scifi-evoking) structures, including the Innovation, Science, and Technology Building at Florida Polytechnic University (a.k.a. the first college in the U.S. with an all-digital, bookless library).

Another standout: the eight perched-on-snow modules that compose the British Antarctic Survey's Halley VI research station (check out Curbed's post on South Pole architecture for more ice-bound structures).
