A Torchwood Musical, With Music By ABBA? Really?

The expanded edition of Russell T. Davies' The Writers Tale comes out soon, covering his work up to David Tennant's final Doctor Who story. And reportedly, the new version tells of the Torchwood musical that never was.

According to the Doctor Who News Page, ABBA members Benny Anderson and Bjorn Ulvaeus were huge fans of Torchwood. And they were part of a group that approached Davies about doing a musical version of Torchwood — I'm not sure if this means a musical episode of the show, a stage musical version, or something else. In any case, the Torchwood musical never got past the concept stage, which anyone who's heard John Barrowman sing will be sad about. [Thanks to Finsbury for the heads up!]

Can you hear the drums Jack Harkness?

I remember long ago another starry night like this

In the firelight Jack Harkness

You were humming to yourself and quietly dealing with aliens

I could hear the distant drums

And sounds of "Exterminate" were coming from afar

They were closer now Jack Harkness

Every hour every minute seemed to last eternally

I was so afraid Jack Harkness

We were young and full of life and none of us prepared to die

And I'm not ashamed to say

The whine of sonics and lasers almost made me cry

There was something in the air that night

The stars were bright, Jack Harkness

They were shining there for you and me

For bisexuality, Jack Harkness

Though we never thought that we could lose

There's no regret

If I had to do the same again

I would, my friend, Jack Harkness
