A Stuntwoman Has Died on the Set of Deadpool 2 (UPDATED)

A stuntwoman riding a motorcycle was killed Monday on the Vancouver set of Deadpool 2.

SJ Harris, 40, was was doubling Zazie Beetz, who plays Domino in the film. The accident occurred at Jack Poole Plaza where the driver lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into the Shaw Tower, according to CTV News.


A local reporter posted these photos from the scene.

20th Century Fox, who is producing the film, released the following statement:

We are deeply saddened by the accident that occurred on the set of ‘Deadpool 2’ this morning. Our hearts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues of our crew member during this difficult time.


Deadpool 2, directed by David Leitch, stars Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, and Beetz. It’s scheduled to open June 1, 2018.

Update 5:20 pm: Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds just released the following statement on Twitter.


In other news, Deadline reports the stunt had been rehearsed for several days and run “at least five times” before the fatal incident. There’s still no word as to what went wrong, however, and an investigation is ongoing. There are also reports that Deadpool 2 was this stuntwoman’s first film.


Update 2 August 15: The victim, SJ Harris, has now been identified. We updated the story above with her name and age.
