"Cinema Space Tribute" is a captivating short film by Max Shishkin that combines the grandest scenes of outer space from more than thirty films, including Alien, Guardians of the Galaxy, Moon, the original Star Wars trilogy and Interstellar.

Visuals aren't the only thing Shishkin borrows from Interstellar. The song you hear in the background is "Mountains," which Hans Zimmer composed for Christopher Nolan's scifi epic, and Dylan Thomas' "Do not go gentle into that good night" (delivered here by Anthony Hopkins), which was featured prominently in the film. The end result is pretty compelling. It's a must-watch, not only for fans of space epics, but for movie buffs in general, who will enjoy comparing how different directors go about framing various scenes in space.

I will say that for all the different planets and moons and stars and blackholes and spaceships that appear in this compilation, a lot of these scenes look virtually identical from a compositional standpoint. The leisurely panoramas. The slowly spinning spaceships. The one-point perspective. The heavy emphasis on parallax between objects in the foreground and the massive celestial objects far behind them. How many of these visual tropes find their origins in Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey (the oldest film in Shishkin's compilation), I wonder? How many are even older than that?
