A dark fairytale inspired by Guillermo del Toro's nightmares

Inspired by a story of Guillermo del Toro's late-night childhood visions of monsters, the short film Shhh... finds young boy Guillermo trying to deal with a nasty sister and a scary hair-eating monster who lives in the bathroom.

At the very beginning of the interview below, Guillermo del Toro discusses his childhood experiences with monster nightmares and lucid dreaming, which inspired Freddy Chávez Olmos and Shervin Shoghian's film:

When I was a kid I had this reoccurring dream of ALF (yes, furry alien muppety dude from the show). I'd be lying in bed, looking out of my room at the front door of my house. He'd open it, walk in and walk to my bed. Usually the dream would end with him hissing at me and biting one of my fingers.

I'm for the most part thankful that my nightmares (when I DO have them) aren't so nightmarish these days, but I do sort of miss the otherworldly horror that my brain would make up for me. Actually scratch that, I'm quite okay not having them anymore.
