So Sodastream—a company that is all about making water that is not fizzy, actually fizzy—has just unveiled Shame or Glory, a three minute long advertisement featuring Sodastream CEO Daniel Birnbaum alongside Game of Thrones’ Hannah Waddingham (who played Septa Unella, a.k.a. that lady who shouted “SHAME” a lot) and Thor Bjornsson (Gregor Clegane, a.k.a. The Mountain, a.k.a that big fella who lifts heavy things when he’s not being on Game of Thrones). It’s part of an attempt to stop people buying bottled water and switch to drinking tap water, to help protect the environment—noble!— and also, presumably purchase more Sodastream products—significantly less noble!
Still with me? Yes? Really? Okay.
A noble intention, but this is just so goddamn weird—and presumably has HBO/Game of Thrones backing, given the character use and everything. I just... look at that gif up top. That’s basically the first two thirds of this entire skit, a recreation of a meme that’s about a year too late and also why do they drag this out for two minutes, why?
And then Thor Bjornsonn, topless and in his Mountain getup from Game of Thrones, starts talking about Mother Earth, and I don’t even know what’s going on any more.
That then transitions to him walking onto another Game of Thrones set, which features both a variety of Sodastreams and someone in stocks to tell us about the magic of carbonating non-carbonated water.
Oh, and then the Mountain tells us “Fuck plastic bottles.”
But it’s not done there! Oh gods, it’s not done! This whole thing has one final twist:
Oh no the Septa is a pretty lady!
I just... I don’t know what I just watched. Go buy a Sodastream, I guess?
