The adventures of America's dinosaur soldier will be revealed at last if the short film's Kickstarter campaign receives its full funding. A steampunk alphabet book also promises to plant an early love of alternate history, and a new RPG from Monte Cook will inspire dreams of science blended with fantasy. But if you're looking to back dreams of our possible future, you can also help fund technology that could lead to the building of a space elevator.
Space Elevator Science - Climb to the Sky - A Tethered Tower: LiftPort is one of the private companies working on space elevator technology, with the hope of easing the path between the Earth and the moon via a lunar space elevator within the decade. The LiftPort plan involves robots climbing their Ribbon to a platform high above. Currently, they're working to building a robot that can climb a record-setting two kilometers straight up toward a test platform of high-altitude balloons tethered to the ground. They plan to continue using crowdfunding as a means to both fund their research and keep the community engaged with and invested in space elevator technology. For just a $1 pledge, they'll keep you up to date with all the LiftPort goings on, and there are various art, t-shirt, and other rewards at various levels. [via Disinformation]
America's Fighting Dinosaur, a short film by Steve Snoey: What if the Allied forces had had a T-Rex on their side during WWII? Steve Snoey's short will explore the life and times of the US's scaliest soldier:
America's Fighting Dinosaur is short faux-documentary about the military career of Pvt. "Little" Sammy Vogel, a 7 ton, 40 foot long U.S. Army Infantryman, fighting shoulder to kneecap with the Allied forces in Europe during the second World War. Using photos, archive footage, letters and interviews with veterans and soldiers who served by his side, I want to shed some light on how the America's biggest soldier managed to go unheard for so long.
For a $25 pledge, you'll receive a digital download of the film, plus a postcard featuring Sammy. [via TDW]
