These photographs by Chicago-based photographer Kyle Thompson are hands down some of the most stunning self-portraits we've ever seen.

"I started taking self portraits a little over a year ago. I was interested in photography but am terrible at talking with people," he writes in a recent imgur post. "So I ended up using myself in nearly all of my photos. I started to spend several hours a day going alone through empty forests taking self portraits with my camera's timer."

By combining powerful scene composition with masterful image manipulation, Thompson has provided us with a remarkably convincing glimpse into a world where the uncanny and the everyday become intimately and weirdly entwined. This is surrealist photography at its finest.

You'll find many more examples of his work on his website, tumblr, flickr and facebook pages.
