What's new at the comic shops come Wednesday? The Avengers and X-Men get cantankerous, new Atomic Robo, Warren Ellis' recent Secret Avengers stories get the bookshelf treatment, and some necrotic shenanigans in jolly old London.
Marvel's Avengers vs X-Men summer event releases its prelude #0 issue, which sees the impending brawl between the mutants and Earth's mightiest heroes draw ever closer. There's also the Dark Horse vampire tale BPRD: Hell On Earth - Pickens County Horror, which Mike Mignola filled us in on this storyline a wee while back.
Next up, Atomic Robo: Real Science Adventures treats readers to the further adventures of the nefarious Dr. Dinosaur. Finally, we have the New Deadwardians, a Dan Abnett-penned Vertigo series about class stratification in undead London:
In post-Victorian England, nearly everyone of the upper classes has voluntarily become a vampire to escape the lower classes who are all zombies.
Into this simmering cauldron is thrust Chief Inspector George Suttle, a lonely detective who's got the slowest beat in London: investigating murders in a world where everyone is already dead!
But when the body of a young aristocrat washes up on the banks of the Thames, Suttle's quest for the truth will take him from the darkest sewers to the gleaming halls of power, and reveal the rotten heart at the center of this strange world.
There are new issues of Angel & Faith, Flash, Spaceman, Unwritten, Star Trek, Walking Dead, Daredevil, Secret Avengers, and Uncanny X-Force. Also the "Rise of the Vampires" story arc begins this week in Justice League Dark and continues in I, Vampire. We spoke with author Joshua Hale Fialkov about this arc last week — check out a preview here.
You can pick up the eleventh volume of DMZ, Warren Ellis' recent Secret Avengers run in hardcover, and the fifth volume of Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming's Powers.
