We knew Guillermo Del Toro and The Jim Henson Company's Pinocchio movie was going to be something special. But we had no idea those two would create nightmare fuel like the puppet above! Behold Pinocchio, the wooden demon beast!
That's the first look at the GDT-produced Pinocchio movie, a collaboration with director Gris Grimly. The feature is inspired by Grimly's own demented Pinocchio illustrations. More recently, Grimly has been twittering up a storm about his Pinocchio project, revealing that the mega-talented MacKinnon and Saunders stop motion animation would be building the movie's dolls. And he even tweeted the studio's current adaptation of the thin puppet who wanted to be a real boy, Pinocchio. Thus giving us nightmares for the next few months. Look at that skinny wooden creeper. It's enough to make you want to buy a woodchipper.
Even though we're scared, we're also pretty elated. There's nothing more horrifying than a truly fractured fairy tale, and with GDT and Henson behind it this thing could be Dark Crystal material! Not sold just yet? Don't forget Nick Cave is working on the music for this production as well.
