The other members of the Thundercats are looking a lot more anime-inspired in their new cartoon incarnation. But the character who's undergone the biggest changes by far, is the beloved the mascot of planet Thundera, Snarf. Here's the first look at the new version Snarf... whose speech patterns may be very different than what you're used to.

Spoilers below!

The first ever glimpse of the beloved sibilant Slithe and infamous complainer has been released via the new batch of Thundercat toys (specifically on the packaging of the new Thunder Tank). Here's a bigger image (click to enlarge):

Snarf doesn't look "bad" (we actually think the anime translation is quite fetching.) He is, however, completely devoid of all emotion. For those unfamiliar with the character, Snarf's emotional breakdowns were pretty pivotal to this character. So this latest reveal seems to be implying that Snarf may not be the comedic outlet he once was (which may make a lot of Snarf-haters happy).

Producer Michael Jelenic backs up this theory in an interview with interview with MTV where he revealed that the new Snarf would be basically silent and confined to a one-word vocabulary (Snarf):

"Everyone always wants to know about Snarf. He will be in it, and he will not talk. Don't worry."

"He won't be going, 'Lion-O, why don't you do this?'" said Jelenic, imitating the character's familiar whine. "We're just having him say, 'Snarf! Snarf!' That's a way to get him in the show without annoying every single person who hates him. It's funny, because people are always like, 'I hate Snarf! Wait. you're not going to put him in? That's terrible!'"

A silent Snarf — how does that strike you?
