On an alien world ruled by a genetically-engineered, ill-defined authority figure, two convicts try to earn their freedom by tracking down and liberating a kidnapped little girl. You're looking down the barrel of Stingray Sam, the latest indie flick from director and star Cory McAbee, previously known for The American Astronaut. McAbee is known for his musical space westerns, packed with retro-futurist trippiness, and the trailer here makes Stingray Sam look freakish in the best possible way. Tiny dancing robots!
The movie will debut at Sundance in January, and features David Hyde Pierce as a narrator as well as McAbee as a singing space convict. Here's what McAbee has to say about the flick:
A dangerous mission reunites STINGRAY SAM with his long lost accomplice, The Quasar Kid. Follow these two space-convicts as they earn their freedom in exchange for the rescue of a young girl who is being held captive by the genetically designed figurehead of a very wealthy planet. This musical space-western miniseries is designed for small screens and perfect for screens of all sizes.
Weird guy in latex? Check. Cowboys in space? Check. Random GMO people and tiny robots? Check and check. I'm there. Stingray Sam [official site]
