Photomicrography is one of the areas where art and science collide, providing us with some truly awe-inspiring images of a largely hidden world. It allows us to see the microscopic play of light over chemical compounds, the unseen patterns contained in our bodies, and the tiny creatures who float undetected through our daily lives. Fortunately, Nikon offers us a glimpse of these wonders through its annual photomicrography competition.Judging for the 2008 Small World Photomicrography Competition has completed, but Nikon has invited the public to vote for its favorite images before the winners are announced on October 15. Nikon is also accepting images for the 2009 competition through April 30, 2009. These are just a handful of the 115 images under consideration for this year's prize:
