A couple of days ago, we asked you for your favorite scifi novelty songs, and boy did you deliver. Now we’ve handcrafted a Spotify playlist which is packed full of earworms for you to endure enjoy, and you guys have only yourselves to blame thank.
These songs really run the gamut. There are songs that actually made it to soundtracks. There are parodies, satirical songs, and tributes. The io9 staff discovered things from the comments that we’ll be humming for a while. And we will never forgive you. Enjoy!
Here are some runners-up from the comments that aren’t on Spotify. None of you nominated my favorite Robot Chicken song, “Blue Rabbits Fucking”:
And here is Bwleon7 with some songs with great references in it:
DISCUSSION
How can you have a list of sci-fi songs without The Phenomenauts? They’ve released 4 albums and 2 EPs of nothing but pure 100% NASA-certified Rocket Roll.
There’s also this classic by Flight of the Conchords
If we’re including horror and cryptobiology in the mix, any given song by The Groovie Ghoulies should count:
Grandaddy has plenty of great sci-fi themed songs, but Jason Lytle’s other band, Admiral Radley ’s song “Goes Nowhere, Does Nothing” is an open letter to loving science fiction, no matter how cheap the sets are.
Also, I have to give a shout out to No Kill I, the
greatestdrunkest Star Trek punk band to come out of Sacramento (and there’s actually some competition there.)
