Praise Satan! Disney's Conjuring Up a New Hocus Pocus TV Movie

There are some people who get themselves in the mood for the spooky side of fall by watching movies like The Rocky Horror Picture Show and It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. For those of us with hearts that are truly as black as the deepest pits of hell, there is only one film that will do: Hocus Pocus.

Fans of Kenny Ortega’s original cult classic have been waiting patiently nearly 30 years at this point to a followup to the story of the Sanderson sisters, and according to Deadline, the time has finally come. The Disney Channel is currently working a reboot of the 1993 movie for television that, tragically, will presumably not star Bette Middler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker, who first played the trio of evil witches. Ortega, who more recently has been heading up the Disney Channel’s strangely successful Descendants movies, also won’t be returning, which really makes you wonder whether the TV movie will be worthy of the name “Hocus Pocus.”

The upcoming Hocus Pocus will be written by The Royals alum Scarlett Lacey with David Kirschner (who produced the original film) attached as executive director. Disney’s yet to announce when the movie will eventually air, but in the meantime I highly recommend finding out when and where the closest Hocus Pocus drag performance is to you and buying yourself a ticket.
