The Facebook group Brainstorm does a new art challenge every month, and this month's is a great one: Redesign Darth Vader and/or stormtroopers. It's a shame we'll never see any of these on the big screen.

DISCUSSION

Love the idea, though i fear most entries will be like the examples listed here and kinda miss the point: Darth Vader doesn't look scary, at all.

He looks mysterious and dark, he moves with unexplained purpose and self-restraint, he sounds like nothing you've ever heard and people grow meeker in his presence. That is the Vader who first showed up on a movie screen in 1977, and it was only through his actions that his looks, body language, sounds and presence became undoubtedly evil.

Vader's looks is, in a way, Hitler's mustache: Both are objectively not very scary, both belong to categories that doesn't contain evil thing, neither of them makes people evil on their own, both are symbols of evil and they both attained their status because of the actions of a well-known owner/wearer.
