International distributor Columbia Pictures have released a handful of new Terminator Salvation pics, which appear to be incredibly gun happy - which is fine, seeing as we'll probably have to shoot everything that moves, after the Earth is taken over by evil robots who want nothing else than to wipe the world of mankind. But what's the bigger crime, I ask you, the gun violence, or that poor child's horrible hat?

Terminator Salvation will be out in theaters May 21.

As a pro-gun liberal, I have a fair collection of firearms. I'm less concerned about the shotgun (which I own two of, each 12 gauge) than the Magnum Research pistol (which I own one of, in .44 Magnum). The petite Mrs. Overclock (a.k.a. Dr. Overclock, Medicine Woman) has no problems with the pump shotgun (admittedly though with a shoulder stock), but doesn't particularly care for the .44 Magnum. You can put target loads in the 12 gauge and the recoil is pretty minor. But to get the .44 Magnum action to cycle, you have to use pretty hot loads, and even a fat old guy like me feels it.

(The most brutal handgun I've ever fired, and I'm including several .45 ACPs, a 10mm Glock, and several .44 Magnums) was a tiny two-barreled derringer in the obsolete .45 Colt. Felt those two rounds all the way up into my spine. On the flip side, once fired a H&K MP5 9mm submachine gun on full auto, and barely felt it.)
