Today, a new trailer was released to promote the fact that James Cameron’s masterpiece Terminator 2: Judgment Day is getting a 3D re-release this summer. But the 3D is not the most exciting part.

Look at that image above. On the left, you see a screenshot from the original 1991 trailer. On the right, the same shot from the 2017 trailer, which was given a full 4K restoration. The color on this new version of the film looks gorgeous and bright, probably to account for the loss of light that happens through 3D glasses.

Check out the two trailers for comparison. First the new one.

And the old one.

Sure that could be a YouTube transfer, but there’s a noticeable difference with this new 4K transfer. James Cameron had been considering a 3D conversion of T2 since as early as 2014, with a more formal announcement coming the following year. So, obviously, this isn’t something he just slapped together. (He did the same thing with Titanic in 2012.) The questions remain, though: will the 3D version of the film look as good as this trailer suggests, and will that come through as you watch it using a pair of 3D glasses?

I love T2 so much that I’d pay to see it back on the big screen in any format so we’ll find out in a few months. Terminator 2: Judgment Day hits theaters August 25.
