The Star Wars prequels will forever be a point of contention. Some love them as their Star Wars trilogy. Others find them mindless and painful. But even people with opinions as opposing as those would agree, these new posters by Eric Tan are the best of what those films offer.

Bottleneck Gallery will release these posters for The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith Thursday January 19 at noon EST. We’re excited to exclusively debut them.

Each print is 12 x 36 inches edition of 250 and costs $50. A full set is $140.

Tan works at Disney and designs consumer products, such as the Rogue One toy box art. He admits that he doesn’t love the prequels but, with these posters, he looked for the best in them. “I wasn’t a fan of those films’ stories but I did appreciate the production design within them,” he told io9. “With the prequels prints, I was able to add all the characters and vehicles that I felt were well-designed and could make for striking imagery.”

The vertical composition came out of an idea to include space, as well as land, in the same print, two things crucial to Star Wars. “I figured if the characters were small enough on the ground plane, I could stretch the composition upward and add the space battles as well,” Tan said.

And if you’re wondering, yes, Tan did similarly posters for the original trilogy (which you can see here) but Disney only released them via their own website, framed. Which means they originally cost $400 each, were limited to only 100 each and are very hard to come by. Fans have been clamoring for those for a while, so this is a nice consolation. Plus, there may be more.

“I would love to [do the sequel trilogy too],” said Tan, who just wrapped work on Episode VIII. “I couldn’t help but come up with ideas for the sequels that could fit in the set format of the previous ones. I just haven’t been given the green light to create them yet.”

Again, these will be available at noon EST, Thursday January 19, at this link.
