Especially if you grew up watching it, Dragon Ball is hard not to love, with its rich landscapes, totally unexplained animal people, and of course, Goku, the gifted but naive fighter at the center of it. Where formative experiences with anime are concerned, this show holds a special place in a lot of people’s hearts.…
Hoverboards ruined Christmas, burst into flames, look foolish, are widely banned, and don’t hover. Lame all around. Except when you turn one of them into a famous magical item from one of the world’s most beloved anime series. That’s what this guy did when he dressed up as Goku from Dragon Ball and motored around…
Well, to the point that they don’t get an angry letter from the Lego Group asking them what the hell they think they’re doing, that is. But this new line of miniature toys based on Akira Toriyama’s designs of some of anime’s most recognizable heroes do walk a pretty damn fine line.
The new Dragonball Z movie, titled Resurrection F, is really more of a remix than a resurrection. Or, better still, a greatest hits compilation, albeit one where the hits happen at light-speed and can destroy the planet. It’s a collection of everything you enjoy about DBZ, but it’s also all stuff you’ve seen before.
Greetings, reading rainbow raiders! It’s a pretty good batch of mail this week, if I do say so myself. We explore the nature of storytelling and the difficulties of religious tolerance, but I also get to talk about poop and fictional characters’ genitals! God I love my job.
Earlier today, Fuji TV announced news that a new Dragonball Z TV series would premiere this July. Titled Dragonball Super, it’s going to be set after the events of DBZ (and completely ignoring the non-canonical Dragonball GT series) and would seem like everything an anime fan could want. There’s just one problem.
Seriously, this weekend is just insane with great cosplay. Here's our second batch of photos from Sakura-Con, Wondercon, Fan Expo Vancouver... and now some photos from Anime Boston as well! Truly we are living in an age of splendor.
Uh-oh. The next Dragonball Z anime movie has a title and a villain, and it's not good news for Goku. In order, it's Fukkatsu no F (or "F Is for Resurrection") and indeed, the first look at the movie reveals the return of Goku's most iconic foe — Frieza.
A group of fans has been hard at work making a live-action Dragonball Z webseries, subtitled Light of Hope, and it looks pretty outstanding. Admittedly, calling it better than the Hollywood Dragonball movie isn't saying much, but I figured multiplying it by a million would put it in the range of "not bad at all!"
The first new Dragonball Z animation in 17 years, the Battle of Gods movie seems to have so much going for it: it's the first in-canon DBZ movie, creator Akira Toriyama worked deeply on it for the first time, and the nostalgia factor. But fans looking for the classic DBZ experience in BoG will likely be disappointed.
Goku showing up on earth kicked off a whole string of ridiculous events in the Dragon Ball world, not all of which were to humanity's benefit. But what if Goku had never shown up at all?
Greetings, mail parasites. Sorry if I'm in a bad mood, it's just been a tough week here in the vague post-apocalypse. Food is scare, the cannibal mutants aren't, and I just remembered it's been 38 years since I last saw a Game of Thrones book. NO SPOILERS PAST BOOK 9, A SOCIETY OF PSYCHOPATHS, PLEASE.
Authors, showrunners, directors and horrible people. They kill characters we love constantly, just to make us feel emotions, or they give us awesome characters and then plan to get rid of them for no reason! Luckily, sometimes fans can come together and keep these bastards from destroying the fictional people we love…
What with wars, destroying the environment, and general imbecility, humanity is constantly getting itself into trouble. More than a few kindly aliens have come to Earth trying to help us change our ways, and for the most part, we've tried to kill them. Here are a dozen aliens that, directly or indirectly, tried to…
Kudos to HBO for this marketing campaign for the Game of Thrones season three set, which leads this week's home video releases. There's barely any show footage, just videos of people reacting to the infamous "Red Wedding" sequence in shock which will sell more copies than a regular trailer ever could.
One of the most iconic elements of Dragon Ball Z are the orange Dragon Balls. The other is unruly hair. Now you can have both.
Do you think Skeletor, the Joker, Megatron and Lex Luthor have the market cornered on evil? Not so fast. The world of manga and anime is just as full of villains as Western comics and cartoons are, and they’re no slouches in the murder and depravity departments. Here are 11 anime and manga villain you wouldn’t want to…
Luc Besson directed The Professional, The Fifth Element, and more, so I have no idea why it's taken this long to get his newest film, The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec, released in the U.S. but here’s the other offerings accompanying mademoiselle!
The end of the world is a scary idea, but the way the world ends isn’t always so terrifying. As it turns out, society could collapse or the planet could get destroyed in a variety of dumb and/or ludicrous ways. Here are 10 doomsday scenarios we hope will kill us, if only so we don’t have to die of embarrassment.
