I finally figured out that the secret to healthy college living was SOUP. Every two weeks make one huge (HUGE!) pot of soup and freeze individual servings. If you want, make a loaf of bread and freeze that too (flour, yeast, water, that's IT, maybe 10 minutes of hands-on time with any basic recipe and SO cheap). It'll take about an hour or 2 ONCE EVERY 2 WEEKS. Invest in some tuperware or reuse containers you already have and freeze your soup. Then you just have to microwave it or throw it on the stove and toast a piece of the best bread you've ever had. Super cheap, delicious, filling and healthy. Other than that just eggs and salads (it takes the same amount of time to cook an egg and put it over some rice you made last weekend as it does to go through a drive through) and munch some raw veggies — what everyone else has been saying. The idea that $1 a meal for fast food that's going to make you have medical bills and health problems later is worth it is ridiculous. If you spend $4 a day on fast food that's $28 a week. In a household of 2 I spend $150 $37.50 a week on groceries, so about $18 each. It would probably be a little more money if I lived alone but still not much. With that $10 a week you'd save you could get a fancy sandwich every now and again. Just TRY it. Invest your time, it's worth it in the long run.
