Next month sees the premiere of the Hulu adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s classic speculative fiction novel The Handmaid’s Tale. A just-announced radio drama will also revisit the dystopian reality, as well, but did you know that a graphic novel has been in the works, too?

Over on her site the Beat, longtime comics journalist Heidi MacDonald reports that Atwood has been working with artist Renee Nault on an illustrated version of her beloved work. Nault’s spoken sporadically over the last few years about the in-progress work on her Tumblr and posted this sample artwork on her website:

The final product is still probably a ways off (Nault’s site says “coming 2017”), but given how The Handmaid’s Tale has been a steady presence on best-seller lists of late, there will likely be a big audience for the graphic novel whenever it hits shelves.
