Since Oscar Isaac is now legally required to be in all movies—a law I think none of us mind—it’s perhaps unsurprising that he’s joining the movie adaptation of Jeff VanderMeer’s scifi novel Annihilation, which will reunite him with director Alex Garland. But it’s still good news.
The movie is about the 12th expedition to a mysterious restricted area of lush vegetation, an inexplicable stairwell, and a sinister force; Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, and Tessa Thompson star as members of the expedition. Isaac is likely playing Portman’s character’s husband, who... well, let’s just say he was a member of the 11th expedition, and Isaac won’t need to spend too much time filming the role. Everything about Annihilation sounds amazing, but reteaming the director of the outstanding Ex Machina with a ton of its outstanding stars, too? Yes please. We can barely wait for the movie, which at the moment is due in 2017.
