Heroes is back. The show will return to NBC in 2015 as Heroes Reborn, with original series creator Tim Kring back at the helm as showrunner. The 13-episode event miniseries will star a new cast of characters and follow a story line independent from the show's original 4-season run (though NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke said former cast members would likely "pop" in for cameos.)
"The enormous impact Heroes had on the television landscape when it first launched in 2006 was eye-opening," said Salke in a statement issued last night. She continued:
Shows with that kind of resonance don't come around often and we thought it was time for another installment. We're thrilled that visionary creator Tim Kring was as excited about jumping back into this show as we were and we look forward to all the new textures and layers Tim plans to add to his original concept. Until we get closer to air in 2015, the show will be appropriately shrouded in secrecy, but we won't rule out the possibility of some of the show's original cast members popping back in.
How maddeningly vague. For now, let's hope the reboot hews closer to the original's early seasons in terms of tone and content; it looks like we'll get a taste for both in the weeks and months leading up to the 2015 premiere, when NBC will launch a digital series that will introduce the new characters and storylines. Now, let the casting rumors begin!
