The first issue of DC's now-monthly He-Man and the Masters of the Universe comic is due out on April 17th, but we have an exclusive 5-page preview!

Written by Keith Giffen, the new comic picks up where the miniseries left off — Prince Adam and the Masters are back in power, while Skeletor and his minions plot their revenge. More importantly, though, Hordak is coming to invade Eternia, and he's bringing Adam's sister Adora (usually better known as She-Ra) with him! MotU fans should recall that in the original series, Hordak kidnapped Princess Adora when she was an infant, and raised her as part of his evil Horde. The new comic amps that up, casting Adora as Hordak's deadliest warrior Despera (I'm pretty sure that's her in the Lady Hordak armor on the main comic cover). Anyways, on with the preview!

Supposedly, not every hero will survive the first issue, so if you've been waiting for a grim n' gritty He-Man reboot — and the Sorceress knows I'm one of them — you have to wait no longer.

And here's a look at the first issues' covers! First up, the regular one:

The exclusive cover (which, as a former ToyFare editor, I'm inordinately fond of):

And the variant She-Ra cover by Adam Hughes:
