Jim Mickle’s indie Stake Land was one of 2010's best horror films—its post-apocalyptic road movie structure was familiar, but its gritty use of vampires (instead of, say, zombies) was distinctive. Mickle returns to produce Stake Land II, which is directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen—and we’ve got an exclusive clip.

First, here’s a synopsis—fans of the first film will recognize the characters.

When his home of New Eden is destroyed by a revitalized Brotherhood and its new Vamp leader, Martin finds himself alone in the badlands of America with only the distant memory of his mentor and legendary vampire hunter, Mister, to guide him. Roaming the wilderness of a steadily decaying country, Martin goes in search of the one man who can help him get revenge.

Once reunited, Mister and Martin prepare to battle a now-ravenous Brotherhood and its monstrous overlord. But it’ll take more than the two of them to take down this terrifying new threat, and with more than just their lives now at risk, the stakes are higher than ever before.

Nick Damici, who also wrote the script, returns as Mister; Conor Paolo reprises his role as Martin. It’s Martin we see in the clip below; though the kid’s been through a hell of a lot, even he lets down his guard once in awhile. (Fortunately, his reaction time is lightning-fast.)

Stake Land II, also known as The Stakelander, is out today on digital platforms; it’ll be out on Blu-ray and DVD on February 14.
