The Oscar nominations are out. Our only hope for a genre win in Best Picture is Hugo or Midnight in Paris, and the odds aren't in our favor. Biggest snub of all? Andy Serkis in Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
Hugo is leading the pack with 11 nominations with The Artist close behind with 10. Midnight in Paris, one of our personal favorites of 2011, also seems to be cleaning up nicely with 4 nominations.
Now onto the snubs. We cannot believe Andy Serkis was snubbed a nomination for his performance in Apes. Ridiculous. Perhaps The Academy needs to make a digital performance category is they're going to continue to ignore the amazing work real actors are doing behind the CG faces of their characters. But we'd rather them simply get the nomination without having to label anything "digital."
We're equally shocked that Tintin didn't find a slot in the Animated Feature Film category. Kirsten Dunst's work on Melancholia is nowhere to be found. But our biggest disappointment (no surprise) has to be The Chemical Brothers' Hanna score. Here's the full list. Feel free to air your grievances in the comments!
