Happy 2012, comic shop patrons! This Wednesday, there's a bunch of promising new reading material on the stands awaiting your eager eyeballs. And no, the "gangster horror" in the headline has nothing to do with Ice-T smoking a joint with Warwick Davis.
The release that has piqued our interest the most this week is Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips' horror noir Fatale . The duo behind Sleeper, Incognito, and Criminal returns with a horror noir from Image Comics. Here's a preview and a synopsis:
A reporter in 2012 stumbles on a secret that leads him down the darkest path imaginable… to a seductive woman who's been on the run since 1935, a mobster who may be an immortal demon monster, and the stories of all the doomed men who've been caught in their decades-long struggle.
Another miniseries that looks fun is Brian Wood and Roland Boschi's Wolverine And The X-Men: Alpha & Omega, which features Wolverine and psionic brat Quentin Quire squaring off in what looks to be a rematch from Grant Morrison's "Riot at Xavier's" storyline. We recently interviewed Wood about this storyline, so keep your eyes peeled for that.
Some other debuts this week include David Lapham's Avatar Press horror comic Ferals, Marc Guggenheim's science fiction book Nowhere Man, and Rob Williams' miniseries Robocop: Road Trip.
There are new issues of Swamp Thing and Animal Man (two of our favorite new series of 2011) and Batwing (you can read an exclusive preview here). You can also check out new issues of Sweet Tooth, iZombie, Star Trek/Legion Of Super-Heroes, Defenders, Punisher, Uncanny X-Force, The Boys, Irredeemable, The Goon, O.M.A.C., and Action Comics.
