Well, isn't that sinister? According to a new scientific study, left-handed individuals are more likely to have sleep disorders than right-handed ones.
Specifically, they're more likely to suffer from periodic limb movement disorder (PLMD), whereby the unconsciously and unknowingly kick their limbs during sleep — leading to feeling tired all day.
A survey of 100 patients from a sleep clinic showed that 84 patients were right handed and 16 left handed, and 69% of the right-handed patients had bilateral limb movements, one of the key symptoms of PLMD. The left-handed patients? 94% of them had it.
This implies that there might be a link between left- or right-brain motor dominance and PLMD, which could give significant insight into its causes and a more effective treatment.
